Sunrise 6:43: Wall of electioneering


It was obvious to the female Dawn Jogger this morning that it's election time on the Stanford campus. Lots of walls near Tressider are covered with candidate posters - usually in the style one 8 1/2 by 11 size flyer being repeated a couple of dozen times. The female DJ wonders is it's like the national elections - the leader being determined by how much money the individual has raised. Just this weekend the DJs filled out their vote by mail authorization...

Sunrise 6:53: Young man's fancy


"In the spring a young man's fancy turns to love," wrote Tennyson. The result: a young Stanford couple up early enjoying some quiet time next to [dry] Lake Lagunita. Such sightings, including overnight camping, don't usually occur to later in the spring semester. But maybe the ground hog was on to something when he declared an end to winter a few weeks back. After all, scientific research has shown that "spring fever is a physiological response to the increased intensity and duration of vernal sunlight as measure by the brain." Meanwhile, storms are expected over the next couple of days...

Sunrise 7:25: Quaint tradition


It's hard to believe that a quaint tradition like a "Sophomore formal" - and a themed one at that - still exists at a major university today. But the female Dawn Jogger spotted a promotional banner for just such an event on her dark [now x days in row that the sun has not risen until 7:25] across the Stanford campus this morning. It's almost worth crashing the event to take a look...
