Sunrise 7:21: Winter arrives

"Hooray, it's the shortest day of the year," an anonymous member of the Dawn Jogging community shouted to the female Dawn Jogger as they passed in the dark. Winter officially arrives today in the Bay Area at 4:22 pm. The winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year between sunrise and sunset. Both today and tomorrow, the sun rises at 7:21 am and sets at 4:54 pm. What the female DJ didn't have time to reply to the other jogger is the sad fact that the days extends initially in the evening, not the morning. So, there are two to three weeks of dark mornings ahead. None of this diminished the thrill of a a wonderful sunrise seen from the Dish.
