Sunrise 6:16: View from the backside

Rather than a blanket of high fog, the air conditioning the Dawn Joggers enjoyed as they made their way up the backside of the Big Dish was supplied by broken clouds coming in the from the coast. The two bare knobs of Windy Hill, the Midpeninsula's most prominent landmark, stand out along the ridge of the coastal range. (They're the small brown spot in the left center of the photo.) The area around Windy was once slated for a housing development, which was thankfully avoided when the land was donated to the Peninsula Open Space Trust in 1979. It is now part of the Midpensinula Regional Open Space District and a favorite hiking destination of the DJs and Cassie.
